Mog Tablet!

Now Pasifika has seen with her own eyes one of the elusive, mystifying Mog Tablets! She didn't find it quite by herself - actually, Lina found it for her - but Pasifika got it, and the kuporing!

It was the Tablet of Charity, so Pasifika also got the Opaline Dress... What should be done with it..? o_O

One day, one fine, wonderful day, Pasifika will get the Tablet of Temperance (yeah, right), but for now she gets the glory for finding the Tablet of Charity in Quifim. Go ask the Moogle! He'll tell you all about it...

That was all the excitement Pasifika got tonight, unless you count the fierce staring competition with an Elvaan (mostly afk) white mage. It went on and o~n... He started it!

Dienamis

Pasifika had never been to the shrouded and mysterious land of Dynamis before, but in the days of old she used to hear all kinds of rumours about it... mostly concerning death, deathga and even more death.

Now it was finally the time for her to see what it was all about, and it started off promisingly enough.

Pasifika dropped dead twice before even entering the creepy place.

After that... it wasn't at all as scary as it... well, should've been. Not as exciting or deadly. Just another place where an invincible Tarutaru could do whatever he liked - although he died once while fighting the boss. But the rest of the party just carried on - and survived, and won. How very not-dangerous.

The freezing monsters were kind of nice, with their funny poses.

Pasifika's patience was finally rewarded in the end, when she was the last to exit. She was left alone for about 12 seconds or so, and promptly died, and exited very dead.

Flying Tarutaru

Adventuring again

After a long pause, I spent some time in Vana'diel tonight. While it wasn't as exciting and wondrous as when I first started, it was nice, certainly better than I had expected...

- I did a couple of GoV pages with Lina. It was easy, I got to smash things with a hammer, and I got a little exp, too. Hexa strikes and light skillchains~ Nice.

- Chatted with friends. Not much, but sometimes it feels very lonely to adventure with no contact whatsoever so this was nice as well.

- Waved at a passing linkshell member. Also offered to help, but wasn't needed... aww, I would've liked to be useful; I can open doors and I'm a decent decoy, and that sort of things.

- Met a stranger. A short and polite conversation, all straight out of the auto-translate dictionary, and he needed my help (but not for anything long and difficult). Perfect.

- Astarael expressed a desire to get a drom from a lottery pop NM. Said NM immediately popped and dropped the item. Nice~

Maybe I should do this more often... if I have time.

My First Magic Kitty

Not much adventuring lately, but here's something wonderful Lina gave me a few days ago:

My First (WHM) Magic Kitty, mostly crafted by her loving Lina-kitty paws~
(Well, she *might* have bought some of this from a store, but she made costumes for Kitty~~~)

The costumes include Pixie (with wings!) and WHM (complete with an awesome hammer!) , but I'm itching to make a RDM costume, or perhaps BLU... too bad my sewing machine isn't working, but I guess that gives me time to perfect my plans.

Last summer the popular idol girl Mumor joined forces with Uka, the dancing mithra, and they gave quite a show - and showed what's what to that foul fiend Ullegore, too.

This year Uka started the show alone as Mumor was nowhere to be seen, but in the end the girls did the grand finale together, with stupendous results:

Pasifika and Lina of course wanted to help their colleagues (everyone remembers Lina's and Pasifika's unparalleled summer event/show, right?), but they had some materialistic motives as well... It was rumoured that combining some hard-to-get prises from the summer event would create a shining furnishing, the celestial globe: "With a gentle shake, this exquisite crystal orb twinkles with the light of innumerable stars."

The star globe Pasifika got earlier had been a bit of a disappointment - it resembles a huge coloured egg more than the stars at the Heaven's Tower - but this was supposed to be more shiny. Much more shiny!*_*

Helping Uka by cheering and dancing earned Lina and Pasifika the pretty new yukatas - which gave them access to the expert levels of the minigames like chocobo catching (but why can't Pasifika also catch mandragoras, they're so cute too... ;_;), and that gave them one piece of coveted globe - a comet fragment.

The the traditional goldfishing game also had a new stellar surprise in store, but Pasifika had little luck catching fish. Lina, on the other hand, soon caught more than she coud comfortably carry, so she gave a couple of pretty shiny fish to Pasifika~

Lina also ate some of the big fish she caugh, but isn't that what a kitty is supposed to do with such catch.

Finally it was time to cheer Uka on again (didn't we beat that Moogle, I mean Diva already? o_O) to get the cosmic designs.

After that, it was just a matter of combining the elements into a shining orb of brilliance.

So cosmic... so shiny.... *_*

But... wouldn't it take at least two galkas to pick this thing up and give it a "gentle shake", like the instructions say!? @_@

Adventures with Lina

Lina invited Pasifika (and Dhm, too!), on an exciting adventure in Halvung. A lot of others were there, too, and... Cerberus.

The three-headed doggy won in the end, but it was fun while it lasted!

Adventures with Dhm

Donthitme the brave tarutaru took Pasifika adventuring - it's been such a long while! - and of course his idea of adventure was to kill important boss monsters (Important for what? I still have no idea...) and get some nice shiny experience points.

It was quite exciting, because all of this happened in areas where Pasifika hadn't yet been at all, ever - except that Abyssea areas kind of look a *lot* like the old areas. ^^;

Much of the local monsters were new, though, and Pasifika got to see some interesting specimens.

This is the first big bad boss Pasifika was taken to watch. (She couldn't do much else at her current level, after a long break, and with no idea what this thing was like, but she did cure the tarus quite a bit!)

You can't see it clearly from the picture, but this... thing... was called Rani, although people called it cat for some perplexing reason. No, Pasifika did not hear it meow, no matter how hard Nt told her to listen! o_O

Whatever it was, it eventually died - or broke, if it was a machine, which it might have been, maybe - and Pasifika got a merit point.

Next monster in line was the big bad bird Pasifika had already been warned about (in the cutscene as he entered the area), but it wasn't quite as big or scary as advertised.

It died and Pasifika got a merit point. You can actually see two more people getting them as well in this picture, at least if you know they're there.

There was some actual exping as well, in a couple of exotic - yet somehow very familiar - locations.

The chests were really... weird. Some were fun, others frustrating, all were weird. And yes, we did help defeat that big thing, Dhm had no problem tanking it~

All of a sudden Pasifika was ready for the next "Maat fight", which she aced, naturally...

or not, but passed, anyway. ^^;

Magian Moogle Trials

We all know this already: the Magian Moogles are a very suspicious bunch, and their methods of making gear or adventurers stronger is very... questionable, shiranai no?

They lure adventurers to their clutches by promising to make everything better, stronger and... more better, but the little things you just need to do to get it all turn into a lo~ng line of ardurous quests, and the Moogles shoot those sharp (and heavy!) stars at you at every opportunity.

They're certainly not too gentle, and still adventurers flock to them, yearning more power and higher levels. For a good while Pasifika was immune to their siren calls, but then they came up with a way to pull her in, too:

The epic long-lost Chocobo Chick Black Wing Giant Frog Technique!

Job specific emotes! Yours for the taking, if you just complete a little trial, that really isn't a trial at all...

Next thing you know, Pasifika was doing a trial with her loyal adventuring fellow Romidiant, to make him stronger as well. Luto said Romi had been feeling down ever since Pasifika beat him in the duel, and in a way that was completely understandable. It was Pasifika's duty to help her friend get over it, at all costs! So she did a teensy weensy little trial.

Then she took a club trial, because clubs are good, especially the hammer type ones. Just kill some easy notorious monsters, the Moogle instructed, and Pasifika went camping.

Easy! Just kill a notorious sheep three times.

Pasifika had a little lamb...

There's time to take in the sights as well~

Then things got just a little bit more complicated (Two possible trials? What is this all about?) and Pasifika stopped doing trials for a while... a very short while, because there was a new limit break for Romi *and* another club waiting for her...

Experience and merit points

Brave little Donthitme, the optimistic optimiser, left Vana'diel for a good while... and then he returned!

Was it the enchanting gameplay and plot that brought him back?
New blue mage spells?
The level cap raise in general?
Or perhaps he just got bored of the other games for a while...

Maybe it was the shock of this unexpected event, or due to Nt's newfound love for the new Grounds of Valor, but after Dhm's return, Pasifika quickly gained a couple of levels in the gloomy depths of Garlaige Citadel and Horutoto Ruins.

New adventures

So much has happened lately, I don't really know where to start... But I have to start somewhere, so I might as well tell about notorious monster hunting. Lina has for some time now had the ability to pop up monsters to kill her (and her friends) whenever she sits down to heal, and others seem to pop them similarily - sometimes they even mean to do it!

All sorts of things can pop up, from fierce cats to fairies, and from huge rams to tiny but deadly bunnies.

The bunny was Lina's, but what we really wanted were the rams, for this mysterious little thief:

Also, it's time for Adventurer Appreciation Campaign again, and we all know what that means - pretty new event dresses! :D

The Moogles had the dresses ready, but otherwise had problems with their supply network, so Lina and pasifika gave them a hand.

Are Moogles really so bad at getting things done, or are they masters at getting adventurers to do their work for them..?
This time they also had some other non-Moogle helpers to do their dirty work.

Either way, the new dresses are really cute and frilly, and the jackets for guys are equally stylish and cool~

Power Frog Girls!?

Equipment

These days I mainly play with Lina, when she ask me to go on an adventure together. Because of that, I most often play when I'm with her, away from home - and my home computer - so I use Dhm's little laptop.

It's slow and doesn't have all the keys as conveniently as I'd like, but as long as I have my gamepad, I can at least do something. It's not configured right, though, so I'm quite clumsy with it anyway.
Sometimes I forget my gamepad home, and then I have really hard time trying to do something, but... at least there's the external numpad, I can use that... ^^;

So when I say "I'm on my laptop, so I'm a bit slow"... That means very slow, and more likely to accidentally warp out than cure you in a pinch. ^^;;

Fenrir, I choose you~!

Lina and Pasifika paid a little visit to Shiva and Ramuh the other day, as a part of their preparations for later.

Shiva was cool as ever, and didn't give any trouble. Pasifika meleed her happily, and so did Lina, although in the screenshot she's just looking on as Pasifika fights away.

Ramuh was equally easy to deal with, even though he looks so scary.

Soon Pasifika and Lina were ready for a greater challenge...

Being able to summon Fenrir had always seemed lie such a far-away dream - and with Pasifika's summoner at level 6, also an impractical one. That didn't prevent her from wanting to run around Saruta with the big shiny doggy.

Dennis kindly offered to help Lina and Pasifika, and having soloed Fenrir earlier all by himself, he was confident he could do it - and he was absolutely right.

The fight with Fenrir was exciting but rather short, and soon enough all three had the ability to summon the legendary canine - in addition t any other shiny being they were able to summon.

Encouraged by their success, the trio also desided to give Diabolos a try, but just as Pasifika suspected, it was a much more difficult fight.

Diabolos won the first bout, and a couple more after that, but then the cavalry arrived...

And the bunny beat Diabolos senseless in no time! :D

Good bunny!

Well, maybe someone else did something, too, but Pasifika certainly napped throught it all - if Nightmare can be called napping...

But now the mighty Diabolos has been tamed, and he's happy to flutter around in Saruta~

Good times

I found some drawings and sketches of Kitty & friends on Pugonorgo Island. I quickly slapped some color on these pictures of a tragic event...

These drawings are about a year old, based on the envelope on which I had sketched the happy ending of this adventure. (I was waiting for an interview, and didn't have any other paper at hand.) The envelope is a bit wrincked, making the picture somewhat garbled when scanned, so I didn't even bother to clean it up much.

If I recall correctly, this was supposed to be a lovely sunset scene...

It seems like another friend was also supposed to join Kitty on this adventure, but I didn't even finish drawing him at the time. Despite that, I think I know who this is...

I think I'll play a bit someday soon...

Pasifika bought ten Mog Bonanza marbles and carefully chose the numbers to ensure a win. Now that the winning numbers have been announced, Pasifika took her marbles to the Bonanza Moogle, who checked them each carefully.

"Hm... I'm sorry, but you didn't win anything, kupo."

Pasifika wasn't discouraged, though, because she had made sure she'd get at least one right, and so, of course, she did; She got a lovely little tarutaru statue~

Rawr, the dragon roars.... the Tarutaru starts casting ancient magic... ... kaboom~! Victory~

A blog post finally appeared!

The screenshots of my latest adventures (Campaign battle and missions - death and excitement!) are on a different computer, but I was sent a link to a very funny - and extremely well done - FFXI video, which I'd like to share.

I took a liberty of snatching a couple of screenshots to make my point: the pictures convey situations and feelings of FFXI unbelievably well, while keeping the funny going. I thought I even recognised some friends there: Nt (top left pic) and Havster (top right pic), among many others, and I also happen to agree with the video about subligar (both lower pics).

The song is in Japanese, but the pictures pretty much show excactly what the lyrics say, and there's an accurate translation in the comments to the video. The main theme/point of the video is "it finally appeared/dropped/got it".

Party~

Moogles kindly handed adventurers stoves (in return for some help in a competition between Moogles and Goblins... does that smell of cheating, or what?) which heat Mog Houses very nicely. Pasifika got all three different ones - with Lina, of course - and soon after Lina started to arrange a party...

A Starlight Celebration party, right? Everyone can gather at Pasifika's nice and toasty Mog House, no problem... Although finding the celebration gear took a while, with all the satchels and sacks to hold stuff in these days. When the others arrived, Pasifika's holiday gear seemed somehow out of place...

...because the party was going to be a bit different, after all. Instead of celebrating inside the cosy Mog House, the trio headed out to Buburimu Peninsula. It did seem a bit suspicious that Mandies were also "invited". ^^;

Harvest Festival

Harvest Festival is the time for creepy monsters to roam the streets, and for the residensts of each city to decorate their hometown with spooky lanterns - and then stay inside at night, with doors locked. It's the time for some spooky, creepy... shopping.

Pasifika is a big girl already, she isn't afraid of some Trick Shadows running around, or the ghostly parade of of the Lilies, or even the winged "unholy infiltrators" that plague the Moogles. Bravely she bought all three prickets on sale in the cities, to decorate her Mog House for the season.

The prickets from San d'Oria and Bastok seem very nice: spooky enough, but not too creepy. The one from Windurst, on the other hand... it's a severed Mandragora head. >_>
Cree~py~

Lina has been trying to convince Pasifika that it's in fact a Mandragora cake - wouldn't that be cute! - with a candle on top, but Pasifika won't be taking a bite out of it any time soon.

Anyway, now Pasifika's Mog House is even more full than before, and better illuminated, and it seems it was was a "buy 3, get one free" kind of deal. Lucky!

Exp Party

Very rare, but it does happen (about once in a blue moon) - Pasifika in a party. This nice party had only friends in it: Nakago, Catzen, Lina - of course, with her cute wyvern - and Little Dhm and the dancing (and occasionally singing) taru Flygon.

It was fun, but Pasifika had misplaced her boots, and she had all but grown out of her low-level pants - you can barely see them under that robe. ^^;

The result of the party - a bit unexpectdly - was level 77 for Pasifika.

Dark tunnels

The San d'Orian sewers - or the lower parts of the Bostanieux Oubliette, as the elvaans fancily call them - are dank and dark at best.

I remember the time, when a seasoned elvaan and a relatively new adventurer hume were trying to figure out if there was a safe way to go down there. "If I go first..." No, if I stand on the hatch and then you open it..." "Perhaps we shoud rather..." And in the end, of course, Phu dropped down first instead of the curious Pasifika - who then dropped down, without any sneak, and promptly died, and then witnessed a fierce battle in the dark, where Phu got rid of the pesky slimes, and...

But that's another story, already told quite a number of times. This time Pasifika explored the sewers with a tarutaru, and together they battled the oddly cute and plump leeches that infest some parts of the damp tunnels. The darkness was thick around the adventuring duo, although the light of weapon skills and weapon skillchains frequently pierced the blackness. Light skillchain FTW~

Some parts of the tunnels go way beyond damp, though, and the elvaans should really consider improving their sewer system, so that the water wouldn't get so deep. When Pasifika's elvaan adventuring fellow Romi joined the fun, the water reached barely past his knees - but a taru could drown in there..! Won't somebody think of the tarus! D:

This tarutaru didn't drown, though. Maybe some tarus can breathe through their pointy ears... or the top of their head. There's no other explanation.

Fairy Tale

Once upon a time some yagudos captured pixies and put them in bottles. Maybe they thought they could get the pixies to cure them, or perhaps they just liked how shiny the pixies are, but nevertheless it was wrong to capture poor pixies and put them in bottles, even if they remembered to poke holes in the lids.

Pasifika, Lina and little Dhm bravely fought the Yagudos and took away some bottled pixies. Gently holding the jars in their arms, Lina and Pasifika ventured to the area where pixies are rumoured to live. They found a wondrous place with pretty flowers, glowing pools of water and many shiny pixies and - at last - a waterfall.

Atop that waterfall was a shiny spring, and by that spring they opened the jars and released the pixies. The pixies were so happy and shiny and they all danced around Lina and Pasifika.

The glowing pools in this area seemed bottomless, and they looked so interesting that the rescuers decided to see what pretty things they could fish up from the shiny depths. (Can you see both of them fishing in the picture?) Pasifika didn't manage to pull up her catch, but Lina got a big fish that wasn't shiny or pretty at all, but instead it bit poor Lina.

The pixies didn't seem to notice that Lina had been hurt and didn't cure her at all, but it was ok. There weren't any other scary monsters around, and the pixies were so shiny and sparkly, and so they all lived happily ever after.

Strange Lands

If Pasifika happened to get lost in a strange forest one night, when the mist is really thick and and its' really, really dark, and she'd emerge somewhere so completely elsewhere it wouldn't even look familiar - at first glance, anyway - would she make it there..?

Survive, adventure, eventually call it home?

One thing that'd certainly help is Tarutarus. Whatever you call them, they're still so cutaru~

There might even be dancing Tarutarus~

... but it's still so weird, and different, and not the same at all, even though some things seem deceptively familiar. ,o_o,

Sunbreeze Festival~

Ah, summer festival~

The time of dancing Tarutarus~

And speaking of dancing, it's also the time for watching the Mighty Maidens dance. (Check out the leftmost dancer, does she look familiar..?) As always, their peaceful performance was interrupted by the powers of evil, but Lina and Pasifika cheered them to victory, every time. After all, if they didn't get enough help, they were unable to turn the monster into a Tarutaru, and they killed it instead... what a waste!

After alot of dancing and chocobo chick catching, Pasifika took a little dip in the river, to catch some goldfish. There where some really big ones around, but for some reason, she only caught tiny ones.

Although dancing and games are what the summer festival is all about, the festive fireworks and the cheerful music create a lovely backdrop for some exping, too, as well as dying to notorious monsters time and again - in good company, of course.

The festival has now ended, but Pasifika has three new shiny decorations to remind her of the memorable event.

Search for the dragon

Tonight, gentle reader, I'll take you along on a journey to the coldest reaches of the north, in times long past, when fabulous beasts still roamed the snowcovered peaks.

Let's start with an action-packed scene.

Forget about long past and far away, and accept that it's all happening here and now. In this small stone chamber, a handful of adventurers is struggling to find enough room to swing the hammers, swords, daggers or any other weapons of choice. A strange beast suddenly sprung on the party while we were carefully crossing the endless-looking snowy plains, leaving us no choice but to retreat to this place. An ornate door glows mysteriously in one corner, as if mocking us, as it refuses any attepts to open it.

The firece beast is finally brought down, and the adventurers can continue the perilous trek. Other creatures seem to be keen on stopping us, for whatever reasons they may have, so let's tread carefully.

I should note that I'm not actually your guide on this journey, but merely a travelling companion. Our guide is a fearless Tarutaru, who has promised to show us the wonders of the northern regions, and even the legendary flying dragons. Not only is the plan to see one passing far above our heads, but he is determined to engage one in fierce battle, should he get a chance.

We're nearing the dragon's domain, so it's time to start eying the sky. Stars shine in the distance like they were frozen in place, dark peaks loom ominously at the horizon.... but there's no sign of a dragon...

There!

A dragon suddenly appears, and it leisurely circles above us for a moment. However, it shows no sign of even noticing us, let alone aswering our guide's brazen challenge. Soon it starts to fly away from us.

We give pursuit, but it flies swiftly now, leaving us far behind. It disappears into the sky, unaware that it was being chased for a while by a handful of foolish travellers.

The other inhabitants of this icy area are much more inclined to make contact with us, and many are more than willing to do battle. This further thwarts any plans of capturing the flying dragon, but it provides us with excitement of it's own.

Even one of the more notorius monsters shows interest in us, and while he's no match for us on his own, with the aid of his minions he bests us, this time.

Finally the adventurers - including our brave Tarutaru guide - are too weary to continue, and it's time to return home, if only to gather strenght for another adventure.

Moogle Mumbo Jumbo

The Moogles are always up to something... So far, Pasifika hasn't fallen to the Magian Moogle's suspicious promises about superior weaponry, but now the Moogles said they could enhance adventurers in addition to weapons.

They even teamed up for this, the Nomad Moogle and the ah-so-mystical Magian Moogle.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Shiny and all.
Let's take a look at the replay.

It certainly did... something.

And it looked suspiciously like the Mighty Maidens' Super Crusher Jig. o_O

Lina and Pasifika wanted to see the effects in action, so they headed up to Sky, to pick a fight or two with the pink flamingoes and the sprinklers.
(That may not sound like the most heroic of battles, but these birdies can be mean.)

Of course, it was a nice chance to try out Lina's new sword as well.

And do some shiny skillchains.

Promyvions revisited

The Promyvions used to be interesting and even scary places. I remember so well the excitement, and all the planning, strategy and discipline that went into preparing for a Promy run... not so much the actual details, though, just the athmosphere. And the fact that everyone protected the white mage with their very lives.

Now Lina and Pasifika "helped" someone go through all the three Promys in one go. The main problem was, that the old guides didn't work anymore, because all the dangers they warned of, all the strategies they suggested, everything was out of date and useless.

The new "strategy" is to run up, give a sound beating to the boss, and move on to next, so no actual help was needed, just pointers about what needed to be done. It's not dangerous anymore, not exciting... barely fun, and even that is starting to wear thin after a couple of runs. ;_;

The place is still as strange as ever, enchanting and weird, and running around inside the Promyvions unafraid is a treat of sorts.

And then there's this, which is fun in it's own way. >:D

Charybdis

Lina wanted (another) shiny sword, so Dhm, Pasifika, Havster and eventually also Nt gathered at the lair of the infamous Charybdis. (Why this sea creature carries a sword around in the first place is a mystery indeed...) Others were after the beast, too, but after some waiting we got the monster, and shortly after the sword.

I expected Charybdis to put up more of a fight, but I guess it's better this way than, say, failing miserably, ^^;

Better late than not at all

They keep saying that it's always better late than never, but I'm not sure how much good posting these vids I made three years ago is going to do, since the wedding anniversary was nearly a month ago anyway. ^^; I'm posting them now anyway, and if you're wondering why I didn't post them back then years ago, watching them should settle that question.

I just made them at the spur of the moment, because it seemed like a funny idea at the time, but then it didn't seem like funny enough to post. Now that I stumbled on them today, and I'm more confident about my readers (that there aren't that many) and I have nothing better to post, up these dusty vids go.

I did post videos of the wedding ceremony of Pasifika and Phu, and also about the wedding reception at Kokba Hostel, and I did mention that trolls came crashing through the gates as the reception was winding down. Here's the never before released (I think) wedding besieged video (nothing fancy, since fine camerawork wasn't really an option at all times in the battle), and below that is a much more edited video of the reception, with an extra "guest of honour" popped on it.

My picture's in a magazine and all~

We were interviewed as the organisers of the (real life) event we had in May, and I'm very happy about how both the event and this article turned out. It's in Finnish, naturally (I'm not exactly an international celebrity), but I've pointed out the most important parts, which are:

- picture of Lina('s player)

- picture of me, wearing the whm jacket my grandmother made me (which is why I consider it relevant to my FFXI blog)

- screenshot of a little "tutorial game" I made (using Ren'py and free graphics & music from the internet) to be used at the opening ceremony of the event, because games was one of the event's main themes

You can also see we had quite a few people there. No idea how many exactly, but we probably got the 1000 visitors during the weekend that we'd set as the official goal. Just enough to make the place look busy without making it way too crowded. <3

This, I believe, is the very first FFXI video I made and published in my blog, nearly four years ago. There were some problems back then, and I ended up replacing the video (that didn't work) with a picture (that worked). I heard the song again today, and since I've had these weird dreams lately etc. etc. I ended up slapping translation texts on the video and reposting it.

There's a story behind the video (of course), but it's not half as melodramatic as the video, so let's not go there. Instead, let me tell you another little story:

Pasifika and Phu met for the first time (ever!) in front of the Windurst Airship Agency. The elvaan looked at the tiny hume, the hume stared at the towering elvaan.... the dialogue between them went a bit like this:

"Well, aren't you a cute one! :o"

"And you're... so tall... o_O"

Please disregard the shaky camerawork, clumsy editing and extreme lag in some of the scenes... and my fascination with zooming & rotating the camera. Hey, at least I've come a long way since... ^^;

A lot of things have been happening in the weird world of real life, and my adventuring has been rather sporadic lately. It's always wonderful to feel welcome when I happen to drop in, thoug! LS friends greeting me with (varying degrees of) enthusiasm, and the lycopodiums, oh how they dance for me... *_*

I can't blame my lack of adventures entirely on the stuff happening in real life.... It's not like I've had absolutely no time to sit down for a nice, exciting adventure, it's just that I haven't really felt like there are any waiting for me.

Pasifika traveled around the world - with Lina, of course - to raise her own army....

No, not tarutarus or lycopodiums this time, it would be so cruel to lead them to battle, and trying to avoid any contact with the enemy in order to protect the cuteness might affect the battle strategies adversely. ^^;

This time Pasifika had a much more practical plan: something cute, but also very powerful, cunning, devious even... Moogles!

So Lina and Pasifika put on their smartest suits and around the world they went, talking to people to recruit their Moogles...

Chocobo Bedtime Story

Once upon a time there was a Windurstian white mage whose dearest wish was to raise a green chocobo. She would seek high and low for chocobo eggs, and then nurture them until the chick hatched. She got a yellow chocobo, a red one, then blue.... and she loved them all dearly, but she never got a green one.

One day she was walking in the forest when she suddenly saw something peculiar. There was a chocobo egg on the ground, but there was no sign of chocobos nearby. An abandoned chocobo egg?

The white mage started looking around to find something she could use to carry the egg safely home with her. She would take such good care of the egg! She would keep it warm, tell stories, sing... Just then the egg stirred!

First the egg moved just a litttle. Had her eyes decieved her? Then it wiggled a little more, and *crack* the shell started to break.

Oh, let it be a green one, the white mage fervently wished. A green one, green one... And then the egg cracked open, revealing a chocobo chick, and lo and behold, the feathertips were ever so lightly tinted green.

The white mage was overjoyed. Her very own green chocobo! She would raise it well, and they would become best of friends. She reached her hand towards the chocobo chick, ever so carefully, and touched the soft feathers. The chocobo didn't seem to mind, and the white mage was sure she could just lead the friendly and curious chick home.

Suddenly a "Wark!" sounded in the distance, and soon a lot closer. The young chocobo hadn't been abandoned after all! After answering the call with a little "Wark!" of his own, the chick turned his bright eyes to the white mage. She nodded slowly, knowing well that this chick would be happier growing up in the wild, with the other chocobos.

The chocobo chick dashed towards the familiar sounds, never looking back. The white mage stood there for a while, but shadows were growing darker around her as the sun set behing the trees. She had to turn and return home, but she couln't help but look over her shoulder, hoping to see one more glimpse of the pale green feathers.

The good, the bad and the shiny

I haven't written much lately, but I guess it's not a big deal since this blog isn't read that much, either. ^^; Here's a summary of some recent events.

First the good stuff...

Lina took Pasifika adventuring, and Nt kindly offered to help defeat some yagudos for the quest. Unfortunately, the yagudos had heard he was coming and had all fled. None to be found. o_O

Finally Pasifika found some holed up in Garlaige Citadel, and the quest could continue. It involved escorting a taru and a couple of mithras to Jeuno, but suddenly it took a turn towards San d'Oria, where Lina asked Pasifika to take a little look at a little dragon.

That always ends up well, right..? >_>

The elvaan doing the dragon research was so obviously none other than Pasifika's own adventuring fellow Romidiant in disguise, that she had to help. (Elvaans, your disguises are pretty useless. D: )

Luckily the dragon wasn't that bad, and the story had a happy ending. :D

In other good news, Pasifika climbed up the floors at Nyzul Isle, and right on the top floor was a Werebuster waiting for her. Dhm and Nt helped Pasifika bring out the mystical qualities this weapon is rumoured to have.

It's been so long since we did these missions... I've been lazy drawing Kitty, and now I have new ideas already. I still have some elvaan drawins left, though, and this story arc seems to be finally going somewhere (they are starting to see Kitty's strengths~), so we'll follow Kitty around in Sandy for now, until I actually have some newer adventures drawn.

Pasifika was standing around in Whitegate one day, with nothing to do, really, just daydreaming... One of her hobbies is standing at the Mog House entrance and waving at friends, but not many familiar faces were passing by. She was lost in her thoughts, thinking about the story she had heard of a girl who got herself in trouble at La Theine Plateau, and the boy who had a white mage teleport him there and help him save the girl - on Valentione's Day, no less.

Suddenly someone shouted for a teleport. What kind of emergency or important task could it be this time?! White mage to the rescue!

The hume guy didn't seem to be in a terrible hurry, but as the pair arrived in the Altepa desert... he suddenly asked Pasifika to join him. :o

He had a partner waiting for him there - not a sweethearth, though, just another hume guy - and he lead Pasifika around the endless tunnels and arid sands of the east and west deserts, until finally they reached their destination. He made clear what was needed from the white mage, and the trio set to work. (He kept calling Pasifika 'whm', which is a short and accurate description, but kind of weird...)

It was the usual killing monsters and taking their stuff job, nothing particularily special.... until he told Pasifika she could melee, too, if she liked. After that, it was the fun kind of killing monsters and taking their stuff job. :D

The reward for a busy evening was some limit points, a bag full of treasures, some gil, too, and the satisfaction of having done several weapon skills. Pasifika's new friend also called his adventuring fellow out at some point, giving Pasifika ideas... Romidiant would probably get nicely alone with the galka attacker fellow.

A very nice and not entirely unprofitable evening, but how to get the sand out of her shoes...

Sights of a new year

Lina has been busy with important missions, occasionally with Pasifika in tow. Eerie places, but still hauntingly beautiful. Luckily, there's always time for some sightseeing.

After Lina's missions took her all the way to the Tavnazian Archipelago, Lina and Pasifika went sightseeing there.

And then, suddenly!

A linkshell is out to kill gods (o_O;), but they're missing mages...

We've replaced the main healer in tank party with a fake, let's see if they notice.

After all the death and excitement, Pasifika wanted to find the auspicious New Year's tigers (and most notably the cute Taruger) to get some New Year's gifts and a prediction of what the new year would bring.

Taruger was cute and wished Pasifika a happy-wappy and fabulous-wabulous year, but Galger had a more grim message, even after it was cencored by Taruger:

Taruger: Happy-wappy new year to you, ma'am. And apparently... commiserations!

Galger: Grrr...

Taruger: Hrrm... Rather than interpretaru that, let me just say, whatever happens this year, always rememberrr to keep you chinny-win up!

So it's all downhill fom here... -_-

All dark predictions were forgotten as soon as they were spoken. While hunting for the tigers, Pasifika had come across the cutest taru, and she dragged the taru around Saruta, Giddeus, Tahrongi (to get the telepoint)...

If the taru follows her home, can she keep it?

Hunting

After spending lovely holidays doing holiday quests and sitting under the decorated trees in her mog house, Pasifika was ready for some adventures, and so she went hunting for notorious monsters...

First one was easy to find: Bune was patiently waiting in his cave, keeping an eye on the tunnel where the tasty adventurers usually come from. pasifika kept an eye for Bune for a while - from a safer distabce this time - until others could come bring it down.

Just as the reinforcements arrived, a single red mage grabbed the big beast. :O
For a good while it looked like an even fight, although a very, very slow one. Bune got the better of him eventually, and Pasifika's party claimed the monster. Bune had no treasure, though. :/
After Bune went down, Pasifika raised the unlucky red mage.

Next notorious moster on Pasifika's list was a sahagin in Yuhtunga jungle. Known for appearing in various parts of the jungle, the walking fishie eluded Lina and Pasifika for a long while. Finally Pasifika cornered it in the northern parts of the jungle. Assisted by their loyal adventuring fellows, the two mages took on the sahagin.

It was a fierce fight, and Feliz coudn't quite keep up, but Romidiant fought to the bitter end. It was close, but not good enough. :/
Despite their defeat, Lina and Pasifika didn't give up, but called another white mage over instead. Who says white mages can't tank notorious monsters?

The Sahagin had no treasure either, but Lina, Pasifika and Romi blew some steam by wrecking havoc in the Quicksand Caves, and there was a treasure coffer just waiting for them. Lina got the map for the area, cheer!

As if that hadn't ben enough excitement for one day, Pasifika went to help Tito get a formidable monster, behemoth. Unfortunately, others got it, and it turned out to be a pretty small behemoth anyway. Lina wondered if it was just a behemot pup still. In any case, it was no match for the trio fighting it, and there was nothing Pasifika could do about it.

After getting suddenly teleported out of Behemot' s Dominion (leaving others with no means of transport behind :/), Pasifika was starting to calm down after a day of excitement. Just then a cute little taru came by, on her way to Jeuno for the very first time. A tarutaru escort quest? :D What a nice way to end a fun day. ^^

Last year I made a little FFXI-themed game as present to Lina. It was in Finnish and just a silly little game, but now I've translated it into English anyway.

Instructions for downloading and installing

Follow the link to the site where the game is uploaded.

Link (File Dropper, updated 4.8.10)

If the link doesn't work (it will expire after a while since this isn't exactly a popular file) or if you'd like to get the game for different OS, leave a comment or /tell me in FFXI.

Among the ads there you should find a button for downloading the file. You'll need to give the number from a picture... sorry, bots, no game for you! (I know, it's a bit complicated, but it's free.)

After you've downloaded the Great_escape.exe to your computer, run it to unpack the game. A folder will come out, and inside is the icon for starting the game.

The version I have up now is for Windows, but I have it also for Mac and Linux, so leave a comment if you want me to add a link to either of those versions.

Instructions for gameplay

This is a point-and-click mystery for you to solve. There's not much to say about the controls, you'll just use the mouse to play.

One hint that comes to mind is that sometimes when there's text on the screen, the next click will make it disappear - and nothing more. So if you click A first and get some text ("This looks like A and what do you know, it is A.") and then click on B, you won't get the description of B - the text for A just disappears. Just click B again. If still nothing happens, then the game has nothing to say about B.

Treasure hunt

Pasifika has some (many @_@) quests uncompleted that she has started ages ago, and one of them came to mind recently. It required finding some very important items in treasure chest, and Pasifika started the treasure hunt in Sea Serpent Grotto.

This kind taru helped Pasifika get the key and lead her to the chest. One down, two to go~

Next place was the Labyrinth of Onzozo, and Pasifika spent a good while trying to get the key. Finally she got one, and then searched for the chest... Of course it's always at the last place you look, there's no point in looking any further, but this chest was in the last possible place, after Pasifika had checked all others already.

A goblin seemed very interested in this treasure, but not in the least upset about some adventurer taking it. Not fighting over it was a smart choice from Mr. Goblin, as Pasifika had just done short work on a notorious gobli that had crossed her path in the labyrinth. Aptly named place, by the way.

Last treasure was in Castle Vahlz and Pasifika already had the key. The chest was sitting there in plain sight, not far from the entrance. Lucky!

Pasifika got caught up in the excitement of treasure hunting and decided she'd go find a chest in Ru'Aun Gardes, too, to get the map. Its just that... she didn't have the map and was hopelessly lost there.

Luckily, the taru guide from earlier volunteered to show her around, and Pasifika got her map from a heavily guarded chest.

The guided tour included also other highlights of the place, like the tragic Five Galka Bridge and also the place where Kirin occasionally hangs out. Kirin wasn't in this time, but some other time, then~

People running around, that pretty much sums it up. Sometimes some notorious monsters are involved. Mainly on purpose, too.

I still have no way to tell what the rest of end game activities are like, but Pasifika's first sky run was... intersting.

Today Lina told me we could bake cookies together if I went to her place, and hey, she wasn't trying to lure me in with something suspicious like candy, so of course I happily followed her. :D

At her place, Lina whipped up a batch of tasty dough while I took out the tarutaru cookie cutter. (Doesn't everybody have one of those?)

I went a little wild and created an alliance of tarutarus~

An observant reader might notice there's still room for one more in the tarutaru alliance, and that's because Pasifika need sto be able to join, of course. However, right now she's adventuring with Lina and Romi.

After that I got a little carried away with the cookies... Here's a scene from Saruta, and I'd like to point out that the mandy there is Pasifika's friend, and she's fighting that crawler. Yes, it's a crawler.

I started to run out of dough by the time I got to the humes and such in the background. (You can see the perspective there, right?) They are, from left to right:
Havster, Astarael, Fyren, Nakago, Catzen (far back), Malachiuk (in front of her) and Djbobby. The resemblance is uncanny, don't you think?

But then I ran out of dough, so I couldn't quite finish this masterpiece. I'm sure I could've squeesed some more people in to admire Pasifika's battle prowess, at least some elvaans to the back row... Lina wanted to put the cookies in the oven already anyway, so I left it at that, for now.

Lina made the dough and operated the oven, but creativity was mostly all mine. Here are a couple more eager helpers, now enjoying a well deserved rest after being constantly underfoot and overly curious about the baking process.

(The cat looks humongous, but she's actually pretty tiny, she's just on a chair at the foreground. ^^;)

Mage vs. Mage

In the shiny corner, we have Pasifika, lvl 75 whm/nin!

She's wearing her Noble's tunic and crown, and dual wields clubs, Brass jadagna and Deae gratia.

In the shadowy corner lurks Romidiant, a lvl 74+ rdm/nin!

He's wearing the Tactician magician's cloak and wielding, err, a shiny dagger.

The match is about to begin, but let's rewind a little to see where this is coming from. How could Romidiant turn against his best adventurer friend?!

Romidiant has always been ready to adventure with Pasifika. Always ready and willing to help, always polite, never telling white mages shouldn't melee... Such a perfect adventuring fellow.

Just a while ago he saved Pasifika from those quadavs, when yet another one of Luto's schemes backfired.

Pasifika is always happy to help him out, too, with investigating the emptiness or whatever needs to be done. Every now and then Romidiant bakes her a loaf of homemade bread they can share while on the road.

Romidiant has been steadily improving, both becoming more powerful and wearing nicer clothes. He has come a long way from wearing the useful but plain race specific vest. :D He's starting to catch up with Pasifika. And... it seems he'd like to surpass her.

That's understandable, but a duel? With Pasifika? But... but... I blame it on that mithra, Luto always has such twisted ideas... @_@

And so Pasifika had no choice but to duel with Romidiant. He always looks so impressive and intimidating with the great katana Pasifika got for her, although Luto probably took credit for that... but he would prefer a dagger?!

It's a nice one, though, pretty handle, decorated blade... but totally useless against Pasifika's stoneskin. And no en-spell on it, until near the end?

Romidiant made a valiant effort to sleep/nuke, but looks like no one told him casting poison first wasn't such a good idea. Romi clearly hasn't practiced soloing enough! Perhaps it's time for him to do things on his own, maybe take some more of those 30m a piece jobs from Luto he's been doing lately. >_>

He might like to avoid Pasifika for a while anyway, after that last Hexa Strike. Got a little carried away, sorry about that. ._.

It seems Pasifika is slowly but surely becoming an accepted member of her community, with increasing number of people (= at least 3) being understanding of her, err, unique qualities, or at least benevolently amused instead of upset and disgusted.

Pasifika can also impersonate a proper white mage if desperately needed, but only for short periods at a time. It's pretty exhausting. Deep down Pasifika is a white mage that walks her own path (fierce attacker~!), and every now and then someone is actually willing to walk beside her for a while. ^_^

There's even a new friend around now, a lovely mithra lady. :D

I have a suspicion that she looks a bit like Lina under that hood, but no, it's not her. Tail looks somewhat similar, too... But this is a San d'Orian Mithra. It's such a joy to have friends~

Well, there's always Romidiant the adventuring fellow, but lately... things have gone a little weird between him and Pasifika. >_>

I just came to think of one thing that the great world of Vana'diel lacks: dating service. And I mean proper dates, like long walks around the Purgonorgo Isle and maybe some clamming, if inventory space permits, or doing an interesting quest together, preferably involving a long-lost love letter or something similar... that kind of things.

If there were such a thing, though, with my luck it would be Ms. Salaheem's attempt to squeeze just a little more money out of the adventurers. I can imagine her making lovely matches, with her spiky friend... >_>

Today's revelation was at least partly influenced by a music video I saw, and with my compulsion to make vids, I just had to tinker with it... here's my take:

Unfortunaltely, Pasifika would probably be beyond help no matter how cute a tarutaru cupid was making the matches... In addition to taking things really slow (You know how long it took to take white mage to 75? ^^;), she has really high if not unrealistic expectations; She used to date the most dashing and handsome elvaan you could find, after all. -_-;

Also, the proper wedding ceremony (I did warn about the expectations, didn't I?) is a one-in-a-lifetime experience. ;_;

I'm sure we could get an event Moogle to officiate, though :o

Edit: I had problems getting the video to buffer, it kept stopping for several seconds at a time no matter what I did. Pasifika finally reached the big 75, but the world still looks the same. :o
What now? What was it all for? What's the meaning of life?

While it's not really the answer to all the questions, the very first merit point helps. Not that any merit partys would want Pasifika around, but there's almost always room for a whm and her trusty hammer in Besieged. :D

Although the hammer is taking a bit of a break, because Dhm (the living vana-dictionary) analysed Pasifika's gear and his plan for new stuff has no room for a single hammer. There are other blunt instruments of destruction, but it's a hammer only if it says "hammer"... >_>

Deae Gratia has a nice name and some sweet stats, though. >:D

What to do, what to do... Pasifika has been skilling up some crafts, and hanging in her Mog House lately (like she always does), but an adventure was just around the corner~

The reborn legendary tarutaru took Pasifika & friends to the moblin mazes, and it was suprinsingly nice! Kind of weird, but very nice in good conpany. ^^

There's no end to people who wonder why Pasifika doesn't do any end game stuff (like a good and proper 75 should), but I guess there's something to do now that wasn't an option before 75...

That's right, I'll go to Aht Urghan!

To the limits and beyond

The Nomad Moogle in Jeuno gave Pasifika a Limit Breaker to, uh, break the limits? Well, she's collecting limit points now. :D That old cooter Maat was there too, and he agreed on a rematch with Pasifika. One of these days...

Where do the limit points come from, then? This special variety of very first limit points has ripened in the eerie glow of the moon in Ro'Maeve, and they were just waiting for to be picked. Romidiant joined Pasifika, of course - every day is a good day to adventure for Romi.

First Pasifika got to cast some raises (a priviledge of White Mages, although sometimes awarded to other mages if no whm is available) and after that she started fighting. She got help from a cool summoner and a very nice monk, who happens to look a lot like Romi. Maybe he's a lost twin? :o

Some time later Dhm joined the party, and so Pasifika defeated a whole bunch of enemies with the little taru and the elvaan twins. Some light skillchains were involved. It was fun~!

Pasifika has attained level 75! Can you believe it? Neither can I...

But it's true! :D

If by some miracle a person not familiar with this melee white mage had wandered in and is now wondering what's so special about whm 75, let me explain. You may have n+1 jobs at 75 and more well on their way, but not me. I only have whm. So you think I'm a new player, don't you..? Not so new: I've been a FFXI player for over 3 years, making Pasifika over 70 vana-years old. (Yikes! She's an old lady... D:)

So, how come there have been no lvl 75 jobs (before now) in all these years?

Well, Pasifika isn't really a very career-driven person - in other words, she doesn't party for exp much. The road to cap level has thus been long and winding, and a lot has happened on the way. She's not your average main healer, either, because ever since she got her first hammer she's been dying (more or less literally) to stand at the front line of battle.

First, Pasifika learned the ropes. Everything was new and ah-so-exiting. :D

Adventuring wasn't bad, but what she really wanted was to grow flowers. Phu, ever the stern teacher, didn't believe in spoiling a new adventurer by making things too easy, but he did relent a bit and bought Pasifika an earthen flowerpot from Ensasa's. Pasifika planted a seed, took care of the plant, and it bloomed... So~ shiny. *_*

Curiosity got the better of her and she harvested the plant, but as soon as she got more pots she grew a replica of the original first plant and dried it - and it's in her Mog House even today.

Of course, Pasifika partied with friends, for fun. Maybe a little for exp, too, but mainly for the fun and excitement of it.

She ran errands and completed quests, everything from doing the shopping to slaying the horrid beasts.

Pasifika joined a notorious linkshell. That didn't exactly keep her from leveling, it's just something I'd like to mention. ^^

She ran across Vana'diel this way and that, and then some. Some of these trips were actually very lovely guided tours. They don't make tours like that anymore... ;_;

She stopped to smell the flowers. And to stare at them. .. and take pictures.

Pasifika took part in various events, with all her heart. Events are so much fun~

And she got married! :D

Interestingly enough, one of the rare moments when Pasifika actually actively looked for party was when the wedding was approaching, because she wanted to get lvl 50.

Ah, those were the times....

Phu did objected to adopting any tarus, but they can still be considered sort of family, right?

Pasifika saved the fair Federation of Windurst - and the rest of the world! All three nations are now safe for tarus to travel. :D

And in addition to all that... Pasifika has chatted with friends and even helped them - teles and raises are really popular, but Pasifika is also an exellent doorstop and a handy 1000 Needles pin cushion, to name a few uses. :D

She has kept Moogle company in her over-decorated Mog House.

There was that Pasifika's and Lina's summer event recently you might remember...

And there are may, many other things, but I think I'll stop here for now on that subject.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all my friends here in Vana'diel for the wonderful adventures we've had together. No, I'm not quitting, silly, I really just want to say thank you to all the wonderful people. I was introduced to this world by one of the best guides anyone could have. I have some very good friends and, err, unique linkshell. But really, it warms my heart when LS people tell the less understanding ones that Pasifika can be a melee white mage if she wants to, even if it is silly. ^^;

I'd also like to thank my understanding real-life family, which has not only allowed me to play for all these years without calling in the nice people in white coats to take me away, but they have also listened - with little to no complaints - to some very high spirited rants about my wo~nderful adventures. (I guess it helps that they have at leats tried the game at some point. ^^; )

As it happened, a linkshell friend needed a hexastriker for light skillchains the other day. That's one of Pasifika's more useful specialties! :D That means another chapter of the adventures of Pasifika~

Act I:

The stage of this scene: The deceptively beautiful Boyahda Tree. (Deceptive because the black mandragoras up there don't play nice, but that's another story.)

Male lead: Xenon, the seasoned blue mage / stealthy ninja

Female lead: Pasifika, the hammer-wielding white mage / hammers dual-wielding ninja

Support roles: Robber Crab, Moss Eater, Knight Crawler, Old Goobbue
Cameo appearance (no fighting scenes): Mourioche

The pair ventured deep into the Boyahda Tree. Each foe was only good for one skillchain, but luckily the tree was teeming with unsuspecting wildlife. Originally the pair only targeted crabs, but bunnies and crawlies got their share after a while. Here's an almost blow-by-blow explanation of how this thing worked:

First the Hexa Strike. :D

Then the Savage Blade.
It starts with a jump that could put some dragoons to shame...

Magic bursts were not really an option when doing weaponskill points, but there was a better chance for those later when Lina invited Pasifika to do some Fields of Valor training. Equipped with a staff instead of her trusty warhammer, Pasifika was able to do Transfixion with Starburst -> Double Thrust - and magic burst with Holy or Banish II. :D Staff skill ups were a nice bonus. ^^

Pasifika has practiced looking on as someone else soloes stuff, like prime avatars and such. This time it was the mission dragon and a BLU soloing it. (No, not the taru. It was Astarael.)

As always, Pasifika waited at the sidelines, ready to step in, an as luck would have it (very bad luck for our hero the BLU, that is) Pasifika did get a chance to cast some cures and kite the clumsy dragon around for a moment while petrify wore off. :D

Spectacular summer event~!

It's over, but it was nice! :D

There were some... complications, but nothing could dampen the joyous mood. ^^ If you promise to tell no one, I'll let you in on a couple of behind-the-scenes secrets...

Pasifika and Lina worked hard to make this event, and they both wanted it to be the most wonderful summer spectacle ever. To make a good event, you obviously need tarutarus, so Linathra rounded up a couple of very cute ones. Lina barely had time to say "fireworks" and "event" before the tarus signed up.

As it happens, that left the tarus with a rather vague idea of the nature of this event, and as the big moment came... one of the tarus thought nuking Tiny Mandragoras with high tier Firaga *gasp* was suitable "fireworks". It was certainly impressive, but so, so cruel! D:

Luckily this taru only needed a nudge in the right direction, and he was soon popping Popstars instead of Firaga. :D But the other taru....

This one was in Starlight Celebration mood, and nothing could convince him otherwise. If only there was more time to explain... but wait! Pasifika had a spell that could send them all to the past, and resolve this problem before it occurred! This unlikely plan even worked! :D

Unfortunately, the taru coudn't make it to the beginning of the show in the new timeline, but Lina had taken full advantage of the time travel and made sure a replacement would arrive. When the replacement arrived, however, it turned out to be a puppet and not a taru. ;_;

The twirling puppet soon mesmerised everyone, and all was well. Then the tarutaru came, too, and it was time for some serious dancing~

After showing off some of their finest dances, the performers figured pretty much everyone in the audience now wanted to become a dancer. When asked if they thought they could dance, the audience raised a flurry of hands, and Lina picked a cute taru to the test. Astarael, Linathra and Pasifika all showed the taru some of their trickier moves, and to everyone's amazement, he copied everything perfectly. :O

Impressed by this show of skill, Pasifika invited the taru to join them in the grand finale.

First, Astarael suddenly hid the entire party from the viewers. The audience gasped in surprise as the entire troupe disappeared before their very eyes, but soon they were even more amazed by the brilliant fireworks show that illuminated the empty stage. Astarael, Dennis, Dibble, Dhm, Lina and Pasifika all popped various beautiful and exotic fireworks, some of them carefully handcrafted by a skilled artisan the very same day to ensure freshness. The fireworks dazzled the audience, sometimes popping in unison and right after at even intervalls, and finally in a blinding volley of brilliance.

After the fireworks finale, there was nothing else left but to bow and thank the audience - although Lina and Pasifika threw in a bonus Super Summer Dance, and all popped a few more fireworks. After that the event became a free-for-all as the audience first stood up to cheer, and then started popping the fireworks they had been given earlier. This went on for a while, but slowly the viewers and performers trickled away, leaving West Sarutabaruta quiet again.

At this point some of you are wondering 'How long can she go on an on about this?' and they shoud brace themselves for the worst.
However, for those who missed the show and want to see some highlights, and for those who did see it but would like a replay of the finest moments I have good news: of course there will be a video. Look forward to it~ ^^

Super Summer Spectacle!

There's no place like home

After making all three nations safe (for tarutarus!), Pasifika can finally return home...

After seeing the grandeur of San d'Oria, the efficiency of Bastok, visiting Jeuno and Whitegate, of course, and adventuring in countless strange, exotic and wondrous locations, there's still no place like home.

(This post was started right after the switch back to Windurst, but got a bit delayd by the preparations of the grand summer spectacle... but better late than never, right?)

Random adventures - now with labels!

I finally got around to adding some labels to these post, and I even made a label cloud out of them. It should be somewhere over there (left) and if it isn't, there's probably something wrong... ^^;

I'm not expecting any huge demand for accurately labelled posts in my blog, so I settled for broad categories like "missions" (nation missions, CoP and all such go under this label) and "adventure" (adventuring which isn't necessarily exping, questing or doing missions).

Some popular themes like "tarutaru" and "Phu" got their own categories because there are posts dedicated solely to those topics. Not all post mentioning tarus are listed under "tarutaru", though - only posts that make a special point of mentioning the topic (or go on and on and on about it) get the label.

There may be some mistakes and it's theoretically possible some posts got somehow messed up when I re-published them with the labels, but I didn't notice any glaring problems with a glance. If you notice something wrong, please let me know so I can fix it.

Intermission:
Here's another word cloud (made with Wordle) of the most recent posts. It says "Galka" a lot, with a touch of "Hume" and Bastok", but there's a healthy dose of "Taru" and "Tarutaru", too :D

Back to the point: I haven't labelled the oldest post that are in Finnish, but I've been wondering if I should make some effort to translate them. If nothing else, they'd complete the stories of Pasifika's adventuring days as well as her fated romance with the elvaan General... but I'm not sure if anyone cares. (If you do, plese tell me.)

I did put the Finnish posts through Google translator to see if I could get help for easy translation there, but the effect was comic, to put it mildly. Finnish is a difficult language to translate, and the special terminology made it even more incomprehensible. When "translated" from Finnish to English, "tarutaru" becomes "fabulous fabulous". o_O That may be an accurate description, but that's not what "taru" means in Finnish. o_o;

Galkas everywhere~ o_o

Most Bastok missions revolve around the Galkas - not suprisingly. They pop up everywhere, and it seems the Humes actually have only a rather faint idea of what's going on.

These missions double as lessons of Galkan history, too. The adventurers were dispathed to explore the caves under Altepa Desert, and they ended up finding ancient murals depicting the sad tale of the Anticans driving the Galkas from their original home. So tragic, and so ancient... (Hmmm perhaps General Phu saw these wall before Galkas doodled all over them...)

Before the history lesson there were some Anticans to defeat, however. Pasifika and Lina were helped by a wonderful puppet, and a Hume that came along with it.
Oh, I can't go through with that... Thanks Astarael~~ ^_^

When you think of Bastok you think of Galkas, and the other way around... but Pasifika also befriended a cool San d'Orian Galka - in the icy North, appropriately. :o

But that was actually another adventure altogether... where was I?

After the Anticans in the tunnel... a gigantic slime in another tunnel. And it turned into lots of smaller slimes, more and more of them... o_o

But we beat the slimes, thank you for all the help!

Now we're nearing the final showdown, and after that... all three corners of the world will be safe fot Tarutarus!! :D

Soon Pasifika can return home to Windurst, to the familiar lo~ng winding roads, Tarutarus flocking all around, gentle breeze from the sea whispering in the palm trees... *_*

Tarutarus~! ...I mean, missions!

When Pasifika's tarutaru-sense tingled, she knew there was a party somewhere, with a tarutaru-content of at least 50 %, and it was in some kind of trouble!

Pasifika's premonitions lead her to Crawler's Nest, where a taru ninja tank was battling evil crawlers with annoying sticky thread. :O With two other tarus, two humes and a galka, the party was managing, but not doing very well.

Pasifika to the rescue~!

The taru content of the party increased as time went by, and they were so~ cute. ^_^

Pasifika has been very busy helping tarus, entertaining Moogle and doing other similarly important tasks, but Lina reminded her that they should also do some national missions. Ah yes, Pasifika is a Bastoker now, and she should do her best to make sure the Republican areas are safe. Cid had asked for something a while back, what was it again...

First, Lina lead Pasifika to Ro'Maeve, and together they defeated an evil statue. The fight wasn't very hard, although there were some complications later, but all in all things went well, no problem.

Were everyone happy with this heroic feat? Not really... There were more problems just waiting to pop to the surface, and Lina and Pasifika were dispatched to the Palborough Mines to find a lost adventurer.

The trail lead to the burning circle, and there was a crowd there! :O

...but only Lina and Pasifika were interested in saiving poor Hani. ^^;

They did their best and managed to bring down one of the four quadavs, but after that they had to, er, retreat and regroup.

Luckily a great samurai came to help them, and the quadavs didn't stand a chance after that. :D

Where has all the banter gone...

I liked the Europa linkshell site where people could gather forces for missions and NMs but also talk about everything in FFXI and outside it. Mustrum's comments were actually beverage-through-you-nose kind of dangerous, but he was by no means the only funny or interesting one there.

This is not the same as the actual LS blog/site, obviously, but as long as there's no more official active site, perhaps it could serve some similar purposes: Lina's FFXI forum

This forum was made a while ago, but we never got around to advertising it or even telling friends about it, so nothing happened. It feels a bit weird to tell people to go to the mainly empty forum, but we'll just have to hope people start filling it. :D

I miss the planning, talk and weird banter, and since I don't play that many hours per day, I'm not that well versed in what's going on in LS or FFXI in general. People I knew and liked just disappear without a trace - or come back when I had no idea they were actually gone - or someone organises interesting activities, and those not on at that specific moment may never know. I'm not saying you *have to* tell anyone these things, but it would be kind of nice... so here's the chance for those who want it.

Spectator Sports

Ohh, the excitement of watching an intence match~!

Well, a lot of the excitement comes from the fact that tarutarus are involved, of course. :o (No... casting... cures... We'll claim if taru dies (noooo~~ ;_;))

Today Pasifika and Dhm were hunting Kreutzet at the far reaches of Cape Terrigan, but both times someone else snatched the big bird. First time it was the cutest lil taru red mage who soloed the beast all by him/herself. (There's really no way to tell when a taru has headgear on. o_o;)

/cheer tarutaru! No dagger for the brave taru who defeated the bird, though, and poor Dhm obviously got nothing as well.

The second time Dhm had a lot of help, and even some practice. Pasifika brought Romidiant out as healer, so that he could back her up should push come to shove, and he needed the practice. You might think it's easy to be the backup of a support job, but let's not forget Pasifika is a melee white mage! Ok, she had promised not to melee the notorious monster, but everything else is ok, right? Despite that, Romi was right on top of things from the beginning:

- Casting buffs on himself at all times: check (It's important to be prepared!)
- Casting haste at irregular intervals: check (Those were for Pasifika, so that's extra points.)
- Casting cures if things got too bad : check (Good boy!)
- Enfeebling with little to no effect: check (It's the thought that counts!)
- Silencing melee mobs: check (Um, the thought still counts, right? ^^;)

And importantly:
- Meleeing, complete with ws every now and then: check ((Front line job) mage :D)
- Magic bursting: check (O_O)

The last bit was a bit of a suprise from an adventuring fellow, but Romi has always been a good and wise companion. :O
Go Romidiant! :D

On the other hand, silencing melee mobs is Pasifika's weak point - if only she could muster that kind of blind enthusiasm, she would pass for Dhm's adventuring fellow any day.

The second time around, an elvaan & tarutaru duo got the monster, and it's treasure too. Let's hope next time it's Dhm's turn. :D

Pasifika looked after some really cute tarutarus (is there any other kind?) and a slightly creepy puppet the other day at Mount Zhayolm. Also, it seems one elvaan cound't get the meaning of 'tarutarus only'...

It would've been a walk in the park (or at the volcano, in this case) if the pointy-hat taru (also known as Dhm) hadn't kept picking on the Magatic Erucas all the time. He just couldn't let sleeping Erucas lie...

Fly me to the Moon

Finally, finally there's a use for the Moongate pass Pasifika spent such a long time getting! :D

That time was well spent in it's own right, though, because the process of getting said pass was very exciting and interesting, but it's been a bit sad that there has been no real reason to actually use the Moongate pass and return to the scene of exotic adventures (and unavoidable death).

Now Fields Of Valor has not only filled Ro'Maeve with adventurer-&-fellow couples doing the training, but it offers training that can be completed behind the mysterious Moongates. :D

Yes, that place is still exciting, and the monsters mercilessly attack a poor widdle white mage trying to desperately recast sneak, but this time death wasn't on the menu. Dhm and Romidiant gladly helped Pasifika vanquish Flagons, Dolls and Weapons. Romi was pressed on time - again - and started talking about heading to town after only a couple of dozen of enemies, but it seemed like a good time to take a little break anyway. There's always next time.

Moogles have been handing out shiny decorated eggs during the past events, and Pasifika's Mog House is just about bursting with them. They're too shiny and/or cute to put away, but there's really no real reason to have a dozen or so of them...

This year the Moogles finally realised the problem, and they had prepared the 4-in-1 wonder: Four shiny, decorated furnishings that can be combined into a one, big... weird... thingy. o_O

At least it's just one egg now, but... it's... certainly original. ^^;

This one may actually end up in the event item storage after a while.

Long-lost friend

Not so lost anymore :D

Quite a few have returned to Vana'diel lately... Once it has charmed you, you can't stay away! ;D
It's always nice to see a familiar face return, but recently also a white mage friend of Pasifika's came back. :D

Pasifika was playing around with Lina at Dunes when this guy suddenly popped up, and he was ninja, like Pasifika. What a funny coincedence!
He was also on the same page with Pasifika and Lina (in FoV training) - team up! :D

Dhm came to help the trio, and after that everything was so~~ easy. Pasifika's ninja gained two levels... soon it's time to actually use it for something. :o

Times chance and levels sneakily accumulate, but it's always nice to have friends. ^^

The beastmen prepared their attack sneakily, and approached Al Zahbi almost unnoticed... less than 50 people were ready to defend when they started their march, and when they attacked the number was still probably less than 100. That's hardly an adequate defence for the most prized posession of the Empire! o_O;

As luck would have it, fours seasoned adventurers were among those gathered at Al Zahbi, and they made brilliant strategies while waiting for the enemy to arrive. (Or at least some semi-decent jokes, and a couple of indecent ones... >_>)

When enemies flowed through the gate, the adventurers were ready! They quicly engaged in combat, and brought down some of the attacking horde, including a notorious troll. They pushed the battle towards the outer gates, and... then the trolls retreated. O_o
They ran home much more quicly than you'd believe they can move, once you've seen their advancing pace.

Pasifika's Believe It Or Not

Pasifika adventured around all by herself, and found out some surprising facts!
Well, Phu had taken her to the places in question earlier, and Nakago had given her some good tips, but anyway... she witnessed them by herself. :o

So let's get started! *ahem*

There are many mysterious and rarely visited corners in Vana'diel, and they hold unbelievable mysteries. Today we're focusing on two areas that are near each other and share some wonders: Blueblade Fell and Leremieu Lagoon.
They're so pretty... *_*

You can't strictly speaking enter either of these places, but you can look - and that's the first wonder. The view over both areas is amazing.
Colors shift in the water of the lagoon as day turns to night, or when a thunderstorm passes over.
You have a stunning view over Blueblade Fell during the day, and beckoning lights twinkle down in the valley after dusk.

There are beautiful flowers everywere, delicately scatterred around the place, and magnificent lightnings tear the grey clouds and roaring thunderclaps accentuate the atmosphere during frequent storms.

But it just gets better.

There are ducks in the lagoon. Cute little critters. And they swim backwards. Tail first. All of them. >_>

Thet's pretty amazing, isn't it? A bit hard to believe maybe?

But the twinkling valley holds an even more wondrous mystery: There are dragons.
Sometimes they just circle around over the valley, sometimes they come a bit closer... Tiny specks in the horizon, unless you know what to look for - but I'm telling you, they're dragons! :O

Also, the whole area is haunted. Nothing nasty, though, these undead are Pasifika's dear friends! :D
Yeah, they do like her stories. They get brownie points for that. ^^

Valentione Singles

It's Valentione's Day again, and the Moogles are encouraging adventurers to play cupid for the horde of Valentione Singles that has invaded the cities.

Pasifika has traditionally done this with a very special someone, but this year none of her friends asked her to join, and the strangers she asked weren't interested. (Not that she asked very many, talking to strangers is hardly her forte... but they were very non-interested. :/ )

Pasifika desided to do this on her own, then - the singles were in desperate need of help! - but it didn't seem easy. The girls immediately recognised her as a kindred spirit, and they spilled their guts about their taste in men. The guys, however, were a good deal more reserved...

With nothing better to do, Pasifika just moped around the single guys, waiting for a kind-looking guy to come within range - like this gorgeously-clad elvaan gentleman - and help her getting the chocolate goodies from the guys one by one.

While this plan was slow at start, a fellow cupid finally saw Pasifika trading chocolates by a single guy and asked if he could join. Sure! :D

At first these two cupids-in-training just compared notes and ran around gathering the missing pieces, and finally met at the Moogle...

Pasifika discovered her San d'Orian knight in shining armor was not an elvaan, and he didn't have any shining armor either. He was a nice guy all the same, and so a galka ended up brandishing a Miracle wand with Pasifika's name on it.

(Pasifika still has all 4 wands with Phu's signature, of course. Oh never more can she crack the joke about having a reraise for Phu "with your name on it". ;_; (Yeah, heartbreaking... but come on, laugh, its a hilarious word play!))
